CBITs Postdoctoral Trainee Spotlight: Celebrating Fellows in Digital Mental Health Research

Over the last eight years, the Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies (CBITs) has trained over 20 postdoctoral fellows through a National Institute of Mental Health sponsored T32 fellowship titled, "Multidisciplinary Training Program in Digital Mental Health." The fellowship focuses on leveraging technology to address gaps in mental health treatment by offering trainees dedicated mentorship and research training from experts in psychological sciences and human-computer interaction. Entering the 2026-27 academic year, CBITs welcomes a new postdoctoral fellow, Isaac Ahuvia, PhD, who joins continuing postdoctoral fellow, Jeremy Eberle, PhD. Meet Isaac Ahuvia, PhD
Ahuvia’s research experiences began in sociology and public policy during his undergraduate years at the University of Michigan. Prior to graduate school, Ahuvia worked as a research coordinator in the lab of Lauren Wakschlag, PhD, at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Ahuvia later attended Stony Brook University to earn his PhD in clinical psychology under the mentorship of CBITs core faculty member, Jessica Schleider, PhD, where he gained extensive experience developing single-session interventions. In the year prior to joining CBITs as a postdoctoral trainee, Ahuvia was a predoctoral intern at VA Boston, providing therapy to veterans across the VA's general outpatient, PTSD, and inpatient clinics.
Ahuvia's research investigates the way people come to identify with mental illness labels and the clinical consequences of mental illness identities. "These identities are frequently built and shaped in online spaces, and digital technologies could be used to deliver interventions in these same settings,” Ahuvia shares. “I hope that, by training at CBITs, I can develop a research and intervention program that helps lay people think about mental health and illness in more adaptive ways." Ahuvia will be mentored in this work by CBITs core faculty member Jonah Meyerhoff, PhD.
Following his fellowship at CBITs, Ahuvia aims to secure a faculty position at a college or university, splitting his time between research, teaching, and mentorship. Ahuvia commented, “Given CBITs' expertise in intervention science, human-computer interaction, and implementation/dissemination, I think I'm in the right place!”
Meet Jeremy Eberle, PhD
Eberle earned his PhD in clinical and quantitative psychology at the University of Virginia, where he worked in the Program for Anxiety, Cognition, and Treatment lab. He later completed his clinical internship at Stony Brook University. Eberle's research aims to clarify the cognitive, affective, and behavioral processes that maintain emotional disorders and the pathways by which psychological treatments can change those processes. "By identifying mechanisms of disorder and change,” shares Eberle, “I hope to advance the development and dissemination of targeted, scalable, and personalized interventions."
Eberle began as a postdoctoral fellow at CBITs in 2024, bringing his passion for research methodology, especially quantitative methods, and open science. Eberle sought training at CBITs for the opportunity to enhance his skills in analyzing intensive longitudinal data, modeling the complex dynamics of individual participants, and building predictive models. He is mentored by CBITs core faculty Jessica Schleider, PhD, and David Mohr, PhD as he pursues this work.
In the year prior to joining CBITs, Eberle spent time analyzing how a web-based intervention targeting anxious thinking affects anxiety symptoms from the perspective of network theory, which views psychopathology as a complex system of interacting elements. His current projects at CBITs continue developing this line of research.
“As the next step, I am excited to explore models that might be more aligned with the theory. I look forward to working with my collaborators and drawing from other disciplines as needed to pursue this question."
In the future, Eberle hopes to run his own lab researching mechanisms of change in emotional disorders and mentoring students to use rigorous methods to pursue their own questions in clinical science. When he isn't working on research, Eberle spends his time hiking, cycling, and seeing live music.
