CBITs Showcases Digital Mental Health Research at the SBM Annual Meeting 2026

By Becca Flynn – April 20, 2026

The Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) will hold its 47th Annual Meeting in Chicago, April 22 – 24, 2026. The conference brings together researchers, clinicians, and public health leaders dedicated to improving health through behavioral science. CBITs core faculty, collaborators, trainees and staff will present their work throughout the conference, showcasing innovations in digital mental health, implementation science, and behavioral interventions for chronic disease prevention and treatment.

This year’s meeting emphasizes the importance of integrating behavioral medicine evidence into health policy, healthcare delivery, and public health practice, with a focus on accelerating discovery through multidisciplinary collaboration and innovative research approaches. The conference highlights how diverse perspectives and methods can help develop effective, adaptable, and sustainable health solutions to today’s most pressing health challenges.

As part of a symposium titled “The Cardiovascular Disease Special Interest Group presents: Spotlight on Understudied Risk & Protective Factors for Cardiovascular Disease: Toward Opportunities for Intervention,” led by Assistant Professor Alyssa Vela, PhD, CBITs trainee Isabel Rooper will present her talk titled, “Efficacy of a Digital Intervention for Binge Eating and Weight-related Behaviors among Adults with Heart Disease,” based on research led by CBITs Co-Director Andrea Graham.

Presentations of user-preferences regarding AI integration will also be shared. CBITs Research Study Assistant Claire Moon will present a poster titled, “User Perspectives on Humanlikeness in AI-Enhanced Digital Mental Health Interventions,” and Research Study Assistant Sarah Popowski will present her poster titled, “AI Disclosure in Digital Mental Health: User Expectations and Preferences.” Both posters are based on research led by core faculty members Rachel Kornfield, PhD, Jonah Meyerhoff, PhD, and CBITs Director David Mohr, PhD.

Centering discoveries around participant engagement and implementation science, CBITs core faculty member Kathryn Macapagal, PhD and Research Assistant Professor Juan Pablo Zapata, PhD will serve as co-presenters in a panel titled, “Lessons Learned in Detecting and Preventing Low Quality Responses in Online Health Research.” Macapagal will also present a poster titled “Lessons Learned from an Implementation Trial of an Evidence-Based Digital Mental Health Intervention into Ambulatory Care Clinics.”

CBITs’ strong presence at SBM 2026 reflects the center’s commitment to advancing behavioral medicine through digital innovation that embraces new technology while continuing to prioritize equity in healthcare. More information about the SBM annual meeting can be found at the SBM website.
