Trial Management Resources

The Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies (CBITs) aims to share resources that will promote research on digital mental health and technology-enabled services. The purpose of this repository is to share materials that other investigators may adapt or reference when conducting their own digital mental health research. Feel free to browse our best-practices repository for assistance on all stages of the trial management process, from recruitment to project completion.

Facebook Ads for Research Recruitment

These learning resources are geared toward research personnel looking to recruit study participants through paid Facebook advertising.

We recommend that you start by reviewing the “Are FB Ads for You?” presentation to help you make an informed decision about whether Facebook advertising will be an effective recruitment strategy for your study. The information we share in this resource is based on several years of experience recruiting subjects from Facebook for CBITs digital mental health studies. We share recommendations for the minimum campaign duration, staff effort, and budget required to run effective advertising campaigns.

Once you've decided that Facebook advertising will be a good recruitment method for your study, we recommend you review the “How to Create & Run Facebook Ads” presentation to learn how to set up Facebook advertisements and manage them successfully. This resource begins with suggestions for how to prepare Facebook advertising plans for ethics board review, and goes through how to manage the ad campaign, evaluate results, and optimize your campaign to meet your recruitment goals.

Aside from the resources provided above, there are document templates (within the presentation decks) such as sample IRB documents, ad result tracking sheets, and others that can be copied and edited to fit your study's needs.
